Monographic concerts |
|
A monographic concert is a collection of pieces linked by a common thread, with few scenic elements, with lights and under the direction of the composer himself.
Each monographic concert can be run as a programme for a whole evening, with the adjustment required by the place that will host it. |

Zone
di confine was born thinking of the sounds of the world. It springs from the desire to unite various tensions and musical inspiration. The result is the creation of a vast and multi-coloured sound environment in which to find or recognize one's own path. In this concert the elaboration of sound is fused with a passionate research into musical instruments and voice. |

In a dark room a piano becomes a source of light as well as sound. Bright diaphanous stalactites jutting upwards are inserted between the strings. They are an indispensable setting to listen to the harmonic sounds, sounds hidden within other sounds. Audible, therefore only through a medium that highlights them, like the colours hidden within the light which are released by a crystal prism. This concert is a story of sounds created with tools and old and new techniques, the oriental technique of diphonic singing, which identifies the harmonics of the human voice, the distant sound of the Australian didgeridoo played with circular breathing, the tone and release of the countertenor-soprano voice and the potential of electronic elaboration of sound. At the center of this tale a piano, prepared with the P.O.P.System, which gives a different voice and almost becomes a new instrument. |

Il Libro degli Armonici is a collection of compositions for piano and P.O.P. System - Piano Overtones Production System. Composed mostly between 1994 and 2001, Il Libro degli Armonici is divided in two volumes, each of which uses special "tuning" data from a different sequence of harmonics. The first volume uses 23 prepared notes, the second uses 36. In the concluding two parts of each volume - Una Dolcezza Inquieta and Sottili Veli di Nebbia - plus electronic and concrete sounds. Una Dolcezza Inquieta is the first work that uses the P.O.P.System. Composed in 1990 and dedicated to pianist Oscar Pizzo, it was inspired by a poem by Eugenio Montale (I Limoni da Ossi di Seppia - Lemons from Cuttlefish Bones).

It would be best if the uproar of birds
fade as they are swallowed by the blue:
the clearer one listens to the whisper
of the friendly branches in the air that hardly move
and the sense of that smell
which cannot detach itself from the ground
and a restless sweetness rains in my chest.
[…]
Sottili veli di nebbia brings together in a vast electroacoustic ambient, five tracks of the second volume - Nos. 6, 5, 12, 3, 2 - each of which is dedicated to a different haiku, short poems in Japanese tradition.
1)
Oh owl!
change your expression!
This is spring rain.
Kobayashi
Issa (1763-1827)
2)
Will the fishing come here
with the flowing stream?
Brume spring.
Kobayashi
Issa
3)
One spring day.
Sweet laziness of the inhabitants
of a small village.
Masaoka Shiki (1867-1902)
4)
The ancient pond
a frog jumps in.
The sound of water.
Matsuo Basho (XVII sec.)
5)
It is spring!
Thin veils of mist
shroud a nameless mountain
Matsuo Basho
